Kayaking in the flooded forest
Amazon, Multiple countries
Glide through flooded forest and peaceful creeks on a dugout canoe or kayak trip that gets you up closer to the Amazon’s extraordinary wildlife.
Best for ages: 13+ | £30 | 2-3 hours
Best places to stay:
Set on a creek surrounded by rainforest, AmazonEcopark feels like the heart of the wild, yet it’s only a ten-minute boat ride from suburban Manaus. Rooms are spread out among the trees, linked by illuminated paths that lead to the restaurant, pier and four natural pools.
With a range of comfortable rooms, easy light adventure tours (including walks in the rainforest and night safaris) and a small beach, the lodge is a good choice for first-time visitors and families with children.
The lodge sits on a creek off the black water Taruma Acu river – a tributary of the Negro River which divides suburban Manaus from the surrounding wild rainforest. There is plenty of bird and primate life but the levels of biodiversity are not as high as in remoter lodges. The airport and city centre are less than 30 minutes away.
