Replica of Tutankhamun’s funeral mask
Ancient Egypt produced one of the greatest of all civilisations, and this spanking new 480,000 square metre museum is the storeroom for some of their finest artefacts. Tutankhamun’s treasures are the big draw, but there is so much more to see.
The Grand Egyptian Museum, located near the Giza Pyramids, is now the largest archaeological museum in the world dedicated to preserving and showcasing their extraordinary culture and legacy.
Highlights include the complete Tutankhamun collection, together for the first time, featuring over 5,000 artefacts removed from his infamous tomb – many never on display before. Other exhibits and interactive displays will cover key aspects of ancient Egyptian life, including mummification, daily life, and monumental architecture, offering insights into this most fascinating of ancient civilisations.
A massive cedarwood boat thought to have belonged to Pharaoh Khufu, found below the Great Pyramid, was recently relocated to the GEM from the Pyramid of Giza.
The museum is open all year round, seven days a week.
