Hydra
Greek Islands, Greece
Greece’s only car-free island is a perfectly preserved sanctuary for aspiring artists, art collectors, and affluent Athenians.
Recommended place to stay:
A well-preserved sea captain’s mansion built in 1810, Miranda epitomises the old-fashioned charm and quiet glamour of Hydra.
Understated and discreet, the family-run guesthouse opened in 1961 and retains the dignified aura of a bygone era. The 14 rooms and apartments are decorated with original antiques, painted ceilings, and vintage prints. Some have verandas facing the sea, others overlook the secret, jasmine-scented garden where breakfast is served (for an extra charge).
The location, on a quiet piazza in the heart of Hydra’s stunning, car-free town, is both quiet and convenient. It’s a 3-minute walk to the waterfront cafes and shops.
