Best places to stay:
This hidden gem of a hotel – a short shuttle bus service from the ski lifts – is for people who value their food as much as their skiing. Run by owners Sandrine and Xavier, who together invent and prepare the meals, it’s thanks to Xavier’s background as a chef (working in several Michelin-starred restaurants) that the food here is so standout. Beautifully presented seasonal and organic (where possible) food is served in a stunning dining room with mountain views.
On certain Saturdays, guests are welcome to join Xavier in the kitchen with a special cooking class. As for the five bedrooms, they all have minimalist Scandi-style decor and balconies overlooking the valley.
Les Orres is a low-key, purpose-built ski resort with a dramatic, high-altitude setting – the scenery is spectacular. The terrain is varied and intermediate-friendly, with larch forests, some good steep sections and fun off-piste spots.
