Val d’Isere
Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France

With sublime slopes, world-class off-piste and a lively, attractive village, ‘Val’ is one of the world’s great ski resorts.
Recommended place to stay:
Although boasting every comfort, Le Samovar has the atmosphere of an old-fashioned ski hotel. Heavily timbered, inside and out, each room has its own individual character – as do the staff. The restaurant serves up traditional mountain specialties, while the fire-lit bar lounge has take-away options for a more relaxed supper.
Set in La Daille, a little outside Val d’Isère proper, the hotel is in a great location for those happy to be away from the busy hub of activity. It boasts a ski-in/ski-out location – it’s right by the slopes and directly opposite the Funival mountain railway up to Bellevarde.
Away from the hubbub, at the foot of the ski slopes with fabulous mountain views. There are a few bars, restaurants and other hotels in La Daille, which is on the main road that leads to Val d’Isère, but the atmosphere is restrained and quiet at night.
