Dive with tiger sharks in Grand Bahama

  • West End, Grand Bahama, Bahamas

Last updated: 21 March, 2024

For the serious thrill-seeker, you can now dive with one of the most infamous man-eaters in the sea –the tiger shark.

‘Tiger Beach’, 2 hours from Old Bahama Bay, is one of the only sites in the world where you can free dive with these apex predators. Growing up to 5m long, these enigmatic sharks with a reputation for eating anything are unnervingly inquisitive, coming right up to divers, ‘bumping’ into them and biting cameras.

It has limited dive access, so the experience is wild and authentic. You’ll also see lemon and reef sharks here.

Getting there & doing it

Full-day dives depart from Old Bahama Bay Marina for a two-hour trip to Tiger Beach. You get two tank dives, ranging from 20 feet to 40 feet depth.

Trips are limited to eight divers, so you get plenty of water time – but book ahead. There’s no minimum age, but it’s for open-water certified divers only.

Remember, these are wild animals that look upon humans as food, so there are risks and accidents have happened. Your travel insurance probably won’t cover this one – so check first.

When to do it

Tiger sharks are present year-round. Trips depart at 8am, arriving at Tiger Beach at 10am, and returning around 5pm.
