A huge resort hotel attached to the famous golf course, the Belfry is a popular destination for groups looking for an active break.

Rooms are a touch corporate, but this isn’t a place for a romantic weekend a deux; besides the three golf courses, there’s a huge spa, a swimming pool, shops, bars (where they do cocktail classes and the like) and a restaurant (the Ryder Grill) big enough to handle most of the guests in the 300-odd rooms.

The Brabazon Bar is a fine spot for afternoon tea, but really this luxury resort on the outskirts of Birmingham is all about its world-class golf courses, even if there’s plenty to keep you entertained in between rounds.
