Havana
Cuba

Sensual and sultry communist Caribbean capital, home to captivating, crumbling architecture, and enlivened by dance, music, avant-garde art and cocktails. Impossible to describe, there’s nowhere else quite like it.
Recommended place to stay:
The only five-star hotel right on the city’s ocean road, SO/ takes a spirited approach to design. Spanish fashion designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada helped create a beautiful imprint in rooms that nod to dance: ballet, salsa and son. The ‘ballet’ rooms are gorgeous in blush pink; nab a seaview room with floor to ceiling windows and it might be difficult to tear yourself away from the view.
The rooftop bar and infinity pool are major draws, as SO/ La Habana is the only five star on the ocean road with sweeping views of the entire harbour, right round to the entertainment district.
For those who like comfort, mod cons and everything on their doorstep, this new hotel couldn’t be better located.
The new SO/La Habana is located where the elegant marble-paved promenade – Prado – meets the ocean road, Malecón.
It’s a bustling corner by day but quiet at night as traffic along the Malecón quietens down by mid evening. It sits next to an art gallery on the Malecón and behind it are some low-key colonial and 50s buildings. The Prado is busy and trafficked by day but by mid evening it’s more popular with pedestrians on the promenade than by cars.
There are a couple of good paladars within short walking distance. It’s also a short walk to northern Old Havana and Havana cathedral from here.
