As its name suggests, this intimate seaside retreat has just seven rooms — well actually, seven suites and one 4-bedroom villa.  Gleaming white, with sharp minimalist lines, bedrooms are cool and uncluttered (though entry-level rooms are very compact). Each has a furnished terrace or sea-view balcony, where breakfast is served.

Families will love the direct access to a sheltered sandy Little Santa Maria beach, and the laidback, unpretentious atmosphere. But it’s equally a place for couples looking for a swish but low-key hideaway.

The beach in front is rarely crowded; nearby Santa Maria beach is a busy hub for water skiing and scuba diving.

Portara, Temple of Apollo

Naxos, Greek Islands, Greece[8.3 miles]

The conspicuous ‘Gate to Nowhere’ should have led to the never-completed Temple of Apollo, but today it’s is the perfect place to watch the glorious Aegean sunsets. It was allegedly built on the spot where the cad Theseus abandoned faithful Ariadne who’d helped him kill the Minotaur.

Venetian castle of Naxos

Naxos, Greek Islands, Greece[8.9 miles]

Naxos was the capital of the 13th-century Venetian conquests in the Cyclades, and the Kastro fortifications bear witness to its importance. Gothic gates, cobbled narrow streets, Roman Catholic cathedrals, mansions with heraldic coats of arms, an Ursuline school (now the Archaeological museum) – are all still lived in.

Panagia Ekatontapiliani

Paros, Greek Islands, Greece[13.4 miles]

This huge church, whose name derives from the Greek for ‘100 entrances’, has architectural, artistic, and historic interest. Look out for the 11th-century frescoes and 4th-century sculptures taken from the temple of Demeter nearby. The Byzantine Museum on site has an interesting collection of icons and wood carvings.

Temple of Demeter

Naxos, Greek Islands, Greece[17.7 miles]

Reached easily by car in central Naxos, this partly reconstructed temple that dates back more than 2500 years was a stylistic milestone for many reasons – explained comprehensively through the English signage – but, most importantly, it was the first in Greece to be built wholly in marble.
