This solid-looking eco-resort offers a safe harbour from the buffeting winds and raging ocean – and a great launch pad for exploring Paparoa National Park – one of New Zealand’s hidden gems.

The rooms are on the Spartan side, but the resort is well-run and within easy striking distance of all the major local attractions such as Pancake Rocks and the Punakaiki Blow Holes.

It also offers a number of brilliant eco-adventure tours, such as rainforest rafting, cave tubing and quad biking.

Prices are reasonably high – but you’re paying for glorious isolation, adventure and as much clean air as your lungs can absorb. It’s a 90-minute drive from the nearest town, but the untamed wilderness is on your doorstep.

Please note - we hope to one day have live prices for you, but for now, here are some useful links for you to compare prices...

Pancake Rocks & Blowholes [walking]

Punakaiki, South Island, New Zealand[0.6 miles]

These striking 30-million-year-old limestone rock formations, located at Dolomite Point, are worth a stop if you’re driving the rugged West Coast. Blowholes, fed by underground caves, provide a daily show as sea spray canons into the air. There’s a special designated circular walk that takes 20-45 minutes to complete.
