Best places to stay:
As you’d expect from a Relais and Chateaux property, La Villa des Orangers is one of the Medina’s most luxurious riads, with a level of refinement, comfort and attention to detail few others match.
Built in the 1930s as the home of a Moroccan judge, it was transformed into a boutique hotel in the 1990s. Luxuriant gardens, a turquoise swimming pool, and views of the mountains make a stay at this beautiful property special.
The French, Mediterranean and Moroccan food served is superb, with an excellent wine list to match. The traditional, marble-clad hammam at the hotel is heavenly, with some of the most indulgent treatments in a city where every second building is a hammam.
The convenient location of Villa des Orangers is unrivalled, close to the city’s star attractions. It’s seconds from the splendid Koutoubia Mosque, and barely a minute’s amble from Jemaa El Fna.
Step out of the tranquil oasis that is the hotel and you’re in the thick of Marrakech’s magical chaos, surrounded by snake-charmers, musicians, dancers, water-sellers, henna-artists, and souk touts, making for a memorable stay.
Despite the bustling location, inside it’s all rose petals, birdsong and tinkling fountains inside.
