Chamonix
Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France

Some of the best off-piste skiing in the world, buzzing nightlife and fantastic scenery – this charming resort has been enchanting mountain lovers for 150 years.
Recommended place to stay:
Centrally located – but with great views of the surrounding mountains – Le Hameau Albert 1er is a classic, century-old hotel with a rustic-style farmhouse and two bijoux chalets to stay in. It mixes traditional Alpine looks with contemporary exterior and interior styling to create a hip-but-relaxed mountain vibe.
Excellent dining options include a two-star Michelin restaurant and the more rustically styled La Maison Carrier farmhouse restaurant. Meanwhile the spa (which is open to the public as a day spa, too) features an indoor-outdoor pool with incredible views of Mont Blanc.
Chamonix and its satellite villages are the places to ski if you want to prove yourself – some of the world’s best freeskiers and snowboarders base themselves here for the challenge of riding the epic off-piste terrain.
Although experts will definitely get the most from Chamonix, there’s plenty of great skiing for all abilities, combined with spectacular mountain panoramas, great aprés-ski, and a vibrant town that has been welcoming mountain lovers for 150 years, not just for skiing but to enjoy every other mountain sport there is, particularly climbing.
