Gardens Havana
A green, stylish Havana hideaway, Gardens is the perfect urban bolthole. In a gritty Old Havana Street, a short walk from one of the old town’s popular squares, climb a flight of stairs to reach the two-storey apartment. It centres around a patio blooming with palms, potted lush greenery and seating. The living room, decorated in Cuban contemporary art, and anchored by a Grand Piano, is lit by filtered tropical light through the restored louvred shutters. It’s like staying in your own private boutique hotel, and the staff are exceptional.
Head into Havana’s humid streets with a concierge-arranged photographer. After strolling the neighbourhood, seek sanctuary back at Gardens, mix yourself a cocktail at the honesty bar, and head to the rooftop lounge to soak up the sounds of Havana as dusk embraces the city.
Surrounding area
In the heart of lively Old Havana, it’s just two blocks to the up-and-coming Plaza del Cristo and surrounding streets with bars, cafés and indy shops and a short walk to the Capitol building and Central Park. It’s also not too far on foot to emerging San Isidro Art District in southern Old Havana. The immediate neighbourhood is untouristy, quiet and lightly trafficked. Colonial townhouses with balconies overlook the street.
There’s an unofficial pedicab stand on Plaza del Cristo. Otherwise it’s one block to busy Avenida de Bélgica, where there are passing taxis.
