Anyone wanting to explore the desert scenery outside of the city should sign up for this 7-mile (11km) hike, run by local operator Nara. The Hatta Trail is considered one of the best day trips from Dubai for adventure seekers – the trail is a 1.5-hour drive from the city.
You can also explore this desert region on a guided tour. These will usually include stops at the Fossil & Camel Rock (unusual rock formations), the Hatta Heritage Village and the Honey Bee Garden to learn about beekeeping. Some tours will also include falconry demonstrations, kayaking, swims in wadis and a visit to the Hatta Dam.
Logistics
Getting there & doing it
The Hatta Trail Centre is about 90 minutes from Dubai by car. The best way to get there is via self-drive or organised hiking tour from the city. The trailhead offers parking, maps, and signage.
The route starts at Wadi Hub Visitor Centre. Hikes can range from 30 minutes to 6+ hours, depending on your route and ability. Trails are colour-coded by difficulty. You can hike independently or join a guided group for deeper local knowledge. The trail network loops back to central points, making it easy to plan circular routes.
When to do it
The best time to hike the Hatta trails is during the cooler months – October through April – when temperatures are ideal for outdoor activity. During peak months, it’s wise to arrive early to secure parking and enjoy the quieter trails before group tours and local visitors arrive. Weekdays are also quieter than weekends, allowing a more peaceful and immersive experience.
The region’s dry climate makes early mornings the best time to start, offering cooler air, gentle sunlight, and the clearest views of the surrounding mountains. Avoid midday heat even in winter, as sun exposure can be intense.
